SELF-GUIDED TOURS OF THE NEW TERRITORIES 

Hong Kong’s excellent public transport system and the convenience of the Octopus Card make it easy for visitors to explore all parts of the territory without the services of professional guides. Bus and train services are extensive and frequent and fares modest. The self-guided tours suggested here provide an opportunity to enjoy some outstanding scenery and cultural attractions away from the more urbanised areas of the territory and the detailed information provided is designed to assist visitors to be able to undertake these tours without the necessity for pre-planning. Simply relax and enjoy the ride or spend time visiting the some of the varied attractions along the way. In each tour public transport is frequent and runs until late night and visitors do not need to worry about becoming “stranded” from their accommodation in Hong Kong. Darkness usually falls between 6pm and 7pm in Hong Kong depending on time of year and to experience all each tour has to offer a mid to late morning start is suggested. The two tours here explore parts of the New Territories and more tours will be included at a later date.


NEW TERRITORIES BUS TOUR 1 <link

SHA TIN, WONG SHEK PIER AND SAI KUNG
This tour around the eastern New Territories starts in Sha Tin and includes a visit to the Ten Thousand Buddhas Temple with the preserved body of its founder on display, scenic bus journeys through areas of outstanding beauty including, riverside, coastline and country park, time to explore the busy coastal town of Sai Kung, famous for its picturesque harbour and seafood restaurants, and the opportunity for a ferry ride to an idyllic island which is home to a public golf course.

NEW TERRITORIES BUS TOUR 2 <link

ROUTE TWISK AND LAM TSUEN VALLEY
This tour of the northern New Territories commences in Tsuen Wan and follows Route Twisk to Kam Tin then, close to the mainland border, passes along the Lam Tsuen Valley to Tai Po through some outstanding scenery and the option to visit various attractions including two old walled villages, Tin Hau Temples, a famous Wishing Tree, a traditional wet market, Man Mo Temple and Railway Museum.
