COMPETITION
Hong Kong Extras second competition closed 31st August 2009. It had been the intention to award prizes to the first two entrants who correctly answered all six questions but there were no winners on that basis. However prizes have been awarded to the first two entrants who correctly answered five of the six questions. The competition questions and answers are detailed below.
Congratulations to Crystal Lim from Selangor, Malaysia and Han Wei Lin from Singapore who each receive a copy each of Valery Garrett’s new book “DISCOVER HONG KONG :THE CITY’S HISTORY AND CULTURE REDEFINED” published by Marshall Cavendish.
If you were unlucky this time please look out for a new competition in early 2010.

Valery Garrett has been resident in Hong Kong since 1973 and was consultant to Hong Kong Tourism Board, helping to set up several tours including the popular Hong Kong Heritage Tour. She lectures on Chinese culture in Hong Kong and overseas and is an Honorary Research Fellow at the Centre of Asian Studies, University of Hong Kong and a Council Member of the Royal Asiatic Society. A full-time freelance writer she specialises in Chinese dress, culture and travel. Her own personal collection of dresses has been exhibited at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London as well as in museums in Hong Kong, Macau, Canada and Australia. Discover Hong Kong is her eleventh book and describes sixty of her favourite places to visit in Hong Kong and the associated history, traditions and culture. This delightful book which features both popular attractions and also many places which are off the usual beaten tourist track will be of particular interest to visitors with a longer stay in Hong Kong and those who are returning to Hong Kong after previous visits and looking for different places to go. You can listen to Valery Garrett’s RTHK interview describing the background to this book via this link;
